BARCELONA, Spain (April 12, 2024) – In the second game of the 2024 id2 National Selection International Tour, the id2 girls team defeated FC Levante Las Planas’ U-15 academy team, 2-0. The game concluded the American delegation’s stay in Barcelona, and the group now faces two final opponents in Madrid.
Marley Skalski (WNY Flash Academy) started the scoring, finding the back of the net in the 38th minute, assisted by Sadie Siedel (Mustang SC). The score would remain 1-0 at intermission. The second half proved more challenging for the id2 squad, as FC Levante Las Planas continued to improve on both sides of the ball as the half progressed. The id2 defensive line held strong, however, preventing their opponent from converting offensive attacks. In the 78th minute, Skalski would find the back of the net once more to conclude the scoring, assisted by Tatum Gardner (Arizona Arsenal). Farah Burkholder provided security in the net with one save and strong communication throughout the game.
The 2024 id2 National Selection girls team faces four worthy challengers in Spain, splitting its time between Barcelona and Madrid:
- April 10 vs. FC Barcelona
- April 12 vs. FC Levante Las Planas
- April 16 vs. Real Madrid
- April 17 vs. Madrid CFF
The matches take the teams to several sites in Spain, which speaks to the value of cultural immersion on this trip. These clubs offer unique training styles and developmental experiences that the id2 National Selection teams will see first-hand. Cultural immersion isn’t limited to matches and training sessions, though; the American delegation will also attend professional men’s and women’s games and tour stadiums in Barcelona and Madrid.
