US Club Soccer Registrar Newsletter - May 2023

Hello registrars,

We’re sure all of you are getting busier as we inch our way closer to the start of the 2023-24 registration year! In this month’s newsletter, we are highlighting some topics and areas of importance for registering your staff and players for next season.

2022-23 summer passwords are now available

Any youth competitive registration/passcard purchased after May 1 as part of the 2022-23 season will be charged at the discounted rate until July 31, 2023. All current registration fees, as well as the 2023-24 fees, can be found here.

Mark your calendars for June 1

US Club Soccer will open the 2023-24 registration system in GotSport on June 1, which will enable you to start purchasing your staff and player membership registrations in preparation for those to become valid on July 1. Additionally, your players and staff may start to complete eligibility requirements, such as SafeSport training and background screening. Here are a few things you can be doing now to get a head start:

  1. Staff and player clean up:

Archive players and team administrators that will not be returning for the 2023-24 season:

  1. Add new players into GotSport:

It is extremely important to add players using their full legal name exactly as it appears on the uploaded proof of birth document (this includes second last name and correct punctuation).  This will not only help speed POB verification, but also help with your older players fulfilling their SafeSport requirements.

For the 2023-24 season, players that will be 18 years old on or before July 31, 2024 will be required to complete SafeSport Training, and your club will need to complete the Sex Offender Registry-Adverse Eligibility List Review requirement in order to be registered (More info: Player Registration web page). These players will need to have a unique Email/User ID listed in their account for them to complete their SafeSport requirement. If a player will complete SafeSport before they turn 18 years old, they will also need to have a parent email listed as a contact email. This is also a perfect time to go through your applicable players and add that email, so they are all set on June 1 to complete their SafeSport requirement.

  1. Add new staff and club admin:
  1. Create new teams:

When creating new teams, be sure to use the team’s age as of the day you are entering them, not the 2023-24 season age, if you are creating the team before beginning of the new season. The system will automatically age up the team when the new season begins.

Reminder: SafeSport and background check requirement completion dates

SafeSport Training:
For all club staff (leadership, admin, coaches, managers, etc.) and applicable players (who will turn 18 years old on or before July 31, 2024), SafeSport Training must be completed on or after June 1, 2023, to be eligible for the 2023-24 season. SafeSport Training completed before June 1, 2023, will only be applied to the 2023-24 season.

Background screening:
To be eligible for the 2023-24 season, background screening must be completed on or after June 1, 2022. Screenings completed before June 1, 2023, will be valid through the 2023-24 season, while screenings completed on or after June 1, 2023, will be valid for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 season.

Player releases

This is the time of year when we see the most player movement.  Please make sure you are familiar with the steps that need to be completed to release a player. If the player is leaving your club at the end of the 2022-23 season, it is not necessary to release that player in order for their new club to purchase a 2023-24 membership for them.

It's tournament season

Check with the tournament to see if guest players are allowed. If so, use the US Club Soccer Player Loan Form on this page to loan a US Club Soccer-registered player for a specific competition from one US Club Soccer club/org to another. The Player Loan Form will need to be completed by both clubs and submitted to US Club Soccer before the start of the event. If guest players are not allowed, the player will need to be registered with US Club Soccer via your club to participate in event.
