RICHMOND, Virginia (May 2, 2022) – The final id2 Training Camp of the age group cycle targeting 2008 boys and 2007 girls was held April 29-May 1 in Richmond, Va. The camp featured 64 players from 39 clubs throughout the East and Central regions. Athletes participated in daily field and classroom sessions, led by a collection of the country’s best youth coaches.

US Club Soccer’s id2 Program is a leader in player identification and development throughout the country, as it provides opportunities for elite athletes to be identified, developed and scouted for inclusion in U.S. Soccer’s youth national team programming. The id2 Program is an Olympic Development Program approved by the United States Olympic Committee and the U.S. Soccer Federation.

There is no cost for players to participate or be scouted, and all meals, lodging and gear are provided by US Club Soccer and Nike. This approach to eliminating barriers to entry helps ensure the best players are able to participate.

This camp was the second of its kind in two weeks – a unique solution to the COVID-related interruptions to schedules over the past year. The id2 West Regional Training Camp featured 61 West-Coast based players. Both camps served as the conclusion to the age group cycle targeting 2008 boys and 2007 girls. Information about the next age group cycle will be released soon.

Both camps included carefully curated itineraries, balancing on-field training and scrimmages, classroom presentations, nutrition and recovery. Players receive evaluations from their camp coaches to help continue their developmental journeys in their club environments back home.

U.S. Soccer scout Keith Tabatznik observed training sessions for potential youth national team programming invitations. On-site scouting like this complements US Club Soccer’s ongoing coordination with U.S. Soccer to share video footage and staff evaluations with technical advisors throughout the country. id2 boys director Gerry McKeown and girls director Tricia Taliaferro implemented id2 curriculum alongside several coaches: Beau Brown (Sting SC), Matt Davison (FC Stars), Matt Lawrey (Atlanta United), Everett Palache (Cleveland Force SC), Stuart Self (Challenge SC), Tom Shields (STA) and Tyler Stakiwicz (PDA).
