Fifteen clubs win titles at National Cup XXI Mid-Atlantic Regional

SOMERSET, N.J. (June 30, 2022) – The National Cup XXI Mid-Atlantic Regional concluded Tuesday after four days of competition at PDA Soccer Complex and Morningside Farm in Somerset, N.J. The tournament featured a total of 100 teams from the Northeast region participating in U-12 through U-19 boys and girls age groups.

All 18 champions, which represent 15 clubs, have now earned qualification to the National Cup XXI Finals, to be held July 14-21 at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado.

PDA was the only club to win more than one division, claiming two boys and two girls Regional championships. In addition to PDA, three clubs that won divisions at last year’s Mid-Atlantic Regional repeated the feat this year: Eastern FC, Ironbound SC and STA.

Valencia CF Academy NY ’09 Soler dialed up the defense to win the U-13 boys Premier Group, only conceding one goal in four games. Ironbound SC ’05 Super Eagles, in the U-17 Super Group, had a similar path to its Mid-Atlantic Regional championship, not allowing only goals in group stage and winning 2-1 in the division final against PDA ’05.

In the U-14 boys Premier Group, New York Rush Select ’08 overcame a loss in its opening game to win its next three, including the final against previously unbeaten Eastern FC City ’08.

The U-14 girls age group came down to Next Level Soccer Academy ’08 vs. PDA ’09 Xtreme. PDA defeated Next Level, 2-1, in the second group stage game of the tournament, but the two were pitted against each other again in the final. Next Level won 1-0.

The same fate happened in the U-17 girls division. STN NorthPenn ’05 won the finale, 3-2, over FC Copa Academy ’06, despite losing to FC Copa two days prior in a group stage game.

All National Cup XXI Regionals have been completed. Now, US Club Soccer’s cup-based championship series shifts to the ultimate destination: the National Cup XXI Finals. Qualifiers from all six Regionals and various qualifying state cups will compete for championships.
