Two dozen winners awarded at National Cup XXI Midwest Regional

CHICAGO, Ill. (June 22, 2022) – Twenty-four teams emerged as champions from a tournament field of nearly 250 teams at the National Cup XXI Midwest Regional, July 17-20 at Waukegan Sports Park and Libertyville Township Sports Complex in Chicago. Annually one of US Club Soccer’s largest events, the Midwest Regional again proved itself in terms of both quantity and quality. The tournament featured U-13 through U-19 boys and girls teams competing among Super Group (most competitive) and Premier Group divisions.

These champions have now earned qualification to the National Cup XXI Finals, to be held July 17-21 at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado. Three clubs won a pair of divisions apiece: Eclipse Select SC, Sockers FC Chicago and St. Louis Scott Gallagher IL.

Seven of these clubs are familiar with Midwest Regional glory as repeat champions from a year ago: Eclipse Select SC, North Oaks SC, Ohio Premier, Salvo SC, South Dakota United FC, Sockers FC and St. Louis Scott Gallagher IL. A few divisions were particularly thrilling. In the U-19 girls Premier Group, Sioux Falls Soccer Academy Atlas used a late surge to win its division after entering the semifinals with one win and two ties. It then knocked off two previously unbeaten teams.

In the U-14 girls Super Group, FC Lake County SC propelled itself to a championship after a 1-1 tie in its first group stage, winning its next three games. On the boys side of the bracket in the U-14 boys Premier Group, FC Evolution showed pose under pressure. Its final three games were all decided by one goal margins. And, finally, in the 16-team division of the U-13 boys Premier Group, Ohio Premier FC edged Illinois Magic, 2-1 in the final, which has been the only team in the division to win all three of its group stage games.
