Two US Club Soccer Amateur Teams Approved for 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Qualifying

CHARLESTON, S.C.  – Two teams from two different US Club Soccer-affiliated leagues have been named to a 92-member field of amateur teams approved for entry into the qualifying rounds of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup – U.S. Soccer’s National Championship.

The two teams that will represent US Club Soccer are D’Feeters Kicks Soccer Club (Texas) of The Roja League and the Lexington Landsharks (Kentucky) of the Ohio Valley Premier League.

Both clubs will see action in the first qualifying round, set for Sept. 18. D’Feeter Kicks Soccer Club will face off against Lone Star Republic in an all-Texas battle on Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. CT at Crum Lacrosse and Sports Field in Dallas. The Lexington Landsharks will play against FC Maritsa of Illinois on Sept. 18 on O’Fallon Family Sports Park in O’Fallon, Illinois at 7 p.m. CT.

The history-filled annual tournament, entering its 107th edition, is the only high-profile event in American team sports where amateur sides have the opportunity, should they advance far enough, to face professionals in meaningful national competition.

Open Division Local Qualifying is conducted on a single-game, knockout basis. Matchups are determined geographically to minimize travel time and expense, with random selection used when practicable to determine opponent pairings. Home teams are determined by coin flip. Pairings for the second (Oct. 16-17), third (Nov. 20-21) and fourth (Dec. 18-19) qualifying rounds will be determined and announced after each preceding round of games has taken place. The survivors will advance to the 2022 Open Cup First Round, set for March 22-23.
