DENVER – Although the second day of group stage for the NPL Girls and NPL Boys at the 2021 National Premier Leagues Finals concluded on Friday, July 9, there is still all to play for heading into Saturday and Sunday action at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Colorado.

The NPL Boys Finals are featuring U-14 through U-17 age groups, while the NPL Girls Finals saw all ages from U-13 through U-19 competing for a national championship.

Goal-scoring did not slow down much from Thursday in the NPL Girls Finals, but 17 teams took commanding leads in their respective groups with perfect 2-0-0 records for six points. Among the teams of perfects, Club Ohio and AFC Lightning are the only two clubs with multiple teams owning unblemished records.

Following the second day of play, the NPL Boys Finals has continued to see tight competition throughout all four age groups. Additionally, five of the eight matches played on Friday on the boys’ side were decided by a goal or less.

Here is a breakdown of some key numbers from the second day of the NPL Finals:

NPL Boys Finals

• 32 – Goals that were scored combined by all teams on Friday
• 4 – Number of teams that are still unbeaten with wins and draws through two days. No teams remaining have won all of their games
• 15 – The total number of teams that are still alive to reach the finals of their respective age groups

NPL Girls Finals

• 17 – Number of teams with perfect records through two days of play
• 158 – the total number of goals scored by teams on Friday, 20 less than opening day yesterday
• 2 – The only two clubs that have multiple teams with perfect records are Club Ohio (U-14 and U-15) and AFC Lightning (U-14 and U-19).

The 2021 NPL Finals continue tomorrow, July 10, with group stage competition for the NPL Girls Finals only, starting at 8:30 a.m. MDT. The NPL Boys teams will have a day off and resume play on Sunday. The NPL Girls matches on Saturday will determine which teams will advance to either the semifinals or finals of their respective age groups.
