DENVER – The heat was on as the search for a national championship began for 92 teams across NPL Girls and NPL Boys competition at the 2021 National Premier Leagues Finals on Thursday, July 8, at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Colorado.

The first day of the event saw a combined 202 goals and 38 teams sitting at the top of their respective groups at all age levels. The NPL Boys Finals are featuring U-14 through U-17 age groups, while the NPL Girls Finals saw all ages from U-13 through U-19 competing for a national championship.

Here are some of the key numbers from day one at the 2021 NPL Finals:

NPL Boys Finals

• 75% – The percentage of NPL Boys games on day one were decided by a goal or less
• 2,196 miles – Seacoast Maine (New England Premiership) traveled the longest distance of any Boys NPL team in the finals
• 1 – The total number of losses that east coast teams had on the first day

NPL Girls Finals

• 15 miles – Shortest distance traveled by a team to the tournament was Colorado Elevation (Yellowstone Premier League), located in Highland Ranch
• 178 – the total number of goals scored by teams
• 12 – Total number of matches decided by a goal or less

The 2021 NPL Finals continue tomorrow, July 9, with the second day of group play starting at 8:30 a.m. MDT. Teams will complete the group stages on Friday, July 10, before heading into the semifinals and finals.
