Players First Club Spotlight: American Academy of Soccer

Editor’s Note: Every quarter, US Club Soccer announces the most recent class of Players First-licensed clubs. In the weeks to follow, the newest clubs will be highlighted with Q&As from their directors.

Q: Why did American Academy of Soccer apply for Players First licensing?

Tim Trevino, Director: We have been very familiar with the Players First program for quite some time. When American Academy of Soccer moved to an NPL club this past summer 2020, our first prerogative was to be involved in all areas with US Club Soccer. The Players First program sets a standard of excellence that not only elevates our club, but helps soccer parents understand the level of commitment we have to the development of the players and a strong pathway to set goals.

Q: What does it mean for American Academy of Soccer to now be an official Players First-licensed club?

Trevino: To become a Players First-licensed club means that we hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards. We want to be a leader in the soccer community that helps players achieve their goals at all levels.

Q: What makes Players First licensing different from other initiatives or programs your club has participated in?

Trevino: American Academy of Soccer has always set its own standards through coaching and playing experiences; creating a philosophy and environment that nurtures talent. Players First goes hand and hand with our philosophy and missions statement: “AAoS provides an environment that emphasizes development of players in soccer and in life. To assist and train players to achieve goals and dreams.”

Q: What would you like the parents of American Academy of Soccer to know about what this means to them?

Trevino: Players First-licensing lets parents know how serious we are as a club about player development, organization and communication. Players, parents and coaches: we work together to make each and every soccer season a wonderful and gratifying experience.
