How to navigate two-way communication with college coaches

Editor’s Note (June 15, 2023): This article was submitted by our partner, ScoutingZone, in an ongoing series of best practices for college recruiting.

If you’ve been reaching out to college coaches (and you should be!), it’s only been one-way communication up to now. Wondering what coaches are thinking on the other end? Is there interest? Are you on their radar? If only you could ask them some questions.

Well, TODAY is the day coaches are finally allowed to communicate back to you.

Keep in mind, June 15 does not define your recruiting journey. If you get a call, enjoy it! Keep an open mind. And if you don’t get a call, use it as motivation to do more. Don’t sit back and wait for them to come to you.

  • June 15 does not define your recruiting journey.
  • While some players will receive calls, the majority of players won’t.
  • For the majority of players, June 15 is the start of their journey.
  • Don’t compare yourself to others; every player’s journey to college soccer looks different.
  • Now that 2-way communication will be permitted, use it to your advantage and proactively pick up the phone!
  • Ask questions, communicate and engage in dialogue.
  • Don’t be afraid of hearing “no.” It’s part of the process.
