Fifteen teams win division titles at National Cup XXI Southwest Regional

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (June 21, 2022) – The National Cup XXI Southwest Regional, a new addition to US Club Soccer’s cup-based championship series, concluded Monday afternoon at SoCal Sports Complex in Oceanside, California. Eighty-four teams from the Southwest region of the country competed over four days, ultimately awarding 15 regional winners that have now earned spots in next month’s National Cup XXI Finals in Colorado.

The tournament field was well balanced with only one club earning multiple division titles: Legends FC, which claimed the U-15 boys Super Group and U-17 girls Super Group. That boys team had one of the most impressive showings of the event, as it did not surrender a goal over four games.

All 15 champions (listed below) turn their sights to the National Cup XXI Finals, to be held July 14-21 at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado.

The U-13 girls Super Group champion, Sporting California Arsenal FC ’09 ECNL, overcame a 0-0 draw in its first group stage game to win its next three games, including the final against Rangers FC ’09 White. Those teams endured a similar road to the final, as each played to a 0-0 tie against a staunch San Diego Surf SC ’09 squad.

In the U-16 girls Super Group, Murrieta Soccer Academy ’06 kept Rebels SC from earning a second division title for the club (which won the U-15 girls Super Group) at the Southwest Regional. Those two teams battled to a 3-1 final score in favor of Murrieta Soccer Academy, which was only the second goal scored against them in four games.

The 10-team U-19 boys Super Group division was particularly thrilling. RSF Attack Academy ’03 narrowly secured a spot in the semifinals, despite losing its final game of the group stage, 4-2, to Oceanside Breakers ’04. In the elimination rounds, though, RSF Attack Academy dialed up the intensity. They beat the previously unbeaten Los Angeles SC ’03 Araya in that semifinal matchup, 3-2, to earn a rematch against Oceanside Breakers. This time, RSF Attack Academy prevailed, 3-1, against Oceanside to earn the title.

National Cup XXI Regionals action concludes this weekend with two more events:
